Who we are and what we are about

Formed in 1982, as the South Fylde Line Users’ Association , following the decision by British Rail to withdraw the last two remaining through services between Blackpool South and Manchester Victoria, the Association has been a mouth piece for local travellers ever since.  We have campaigned for better services along the coast line - which was once the premier route into the famous resort, until the closure of Blackpool Central in November 1964. Through services to Preston and beyond, summer Sunday services were successful campaigns in our early years.

The early nineties witnessed ‘a variation on a theme’, when Inter City withdrew the remaining Blackpool North to London Euston trains.  We opposed this move, but couldn’t prevent the inevitable happening.  However, the situation turned full circle, when Virgin re-introduced a through service in 1998.

The Pleasure Beach station serves the nearby famous pleasure park which is visited annually by millions.  We believe more could be done to increase both traffic and revenue in this area.

Currently we are supporting

  1. The re-opening of Wrea Green station.

  2. The reinstatement of passenger services to Fleetwood, now one of the largest towns in England without a train service.

  3. We also have a deep seated desire to see a passing loop installed along the South Fylde branch.
