The 25th, 26th and 27th of October 2005

Witnessed a series of Illumination specials, which originated from Rawtenstall on the East Lancashire Railway, run through to Blackpool. This picture shows Black 5 45407 (masquerading as classmate 44996) propelling the coaching stock into the sidings at Blackpool North. (Picture taken by Craig Nettleton).

For the final Saturday of Blackpool Illuminations saw an excursion which originated in Cleethorpes, being powered by Thompsom Class B!, number 61264. This brought memories flooding back to the days when B1's were a regular sight in the resort on day excursions. It is thought that the last time one appeared in Blackpool was 1966. In typical illumination weather (wind & rain) the locomotive is seen shunting in Blackpool North carriage sidings.
