First North Western ran a 'Farewell to heritage traction' using the venerable Class 37 diesel locomotive, or to be precise four of them (at least on the Preston to Blackpool leg). The locomotives are due to be displaced from services along the North Wales coast line by new Coradia units, but as the new rolling stock has hit a snag (they are slightly too wide) the replacement programme may well be put back.
