Double headed Class 47

Blackpool once attracted so much excursion traffic that some carriage sets had to be stabled back in Preston, because all the available sidings along the Fylde coast were already full ! Not so today, in fact to see just one special train arrive in the famous resort, that owes its very existence to the railways, is something of a ‘red letter day’. However, 1999 did prove to be an interesting year - June witnessed the arrival of a double headed Class 47 enthusiast working from Westbury which was latterly hauled by a Class 60 down the Colne branch.

The first of this series of views show the two Class 47’s, with 47 348 St.Christopher’s Railway Home leading, having just arrived in platform 3 at Blackpool North.  This train was topped and tailed with Class 60 60060 James Watt.
