The South Fylde Rail Ale Trail

Wedenesday the 28th of June, 2006 witnessed the official launch of the South Fylde Rail Ale Trail leaflet, at Blackpool South. Those in attendance included the Mayor of Blackpool, Northern Rail management, officers from Blackpool Borough Council, committee members from BAFRUA and CAMRA.

This page has been designed to enable those of us who are fortunate to own a car, but would like to enjoy a drink in one of the many public houses that are situated close to a local railway station, and would prefer to leave the car at home

Contained on this page are the names of sixteen pubs which are within easy walking distance of the relevant South Fylde line station.

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO GET TO YOUR CHOSEN WATERING HOLE.

Dog & Partridge & The Royal Oak- Having climbed the steps, or taken the graded slope, from platform level to Waterloo Road bridge turn left, and cross the road. The Royal Oak is on the corner of the junction with Lytham Road. 

The Dog & Partridge is a short walk past the Royal Oak, and is situated just across the road, on Lytham Road.

The Waterloo - Having taken the steps up to the bridge, turn right and walk down the slope, heading inland. Cross Waterloo Road, and you'll find the pub, which is well known for its crown green bowling competitions, at the junction of Waterloo Road and St.Annes Road.

The Star - Head for the promenade and the Big One. The pub is literally situated within the shadows of this popular ride. The pub also offers live music on certain evenings.

The Air Balloon - Climb the steps from the station up to Squires Gate bridge and turn right, heading for the airport. The pub can be found just inside the entrance to the airport.

The Admiral - Alighting from the train, head towards The Square and all of its shops. Keep walking towards the sea until you have Woolworths on the corner. Cross Clifton Drive and the pub can be found on the corner with St.Annes Road West.

The Crescent - Can be found right across the road from the railway station.

The Fairhaven - From the station turn right into Woodlands Road, and head towards the coast. Eventually you will come to Clifton Drive. Cross the road and you will find the pub on the corner of Marine Drive.

The Institute - Turn left into Woodlands Road, and the Institute can be found approximately 75 yards further down the road. Note - you may have to be a member to gain access here.

The Blossoms - The same directions as the Institute - just keep walking further along Woodlands Road to the junction with Blackpool Road. The pub is located at this junction.

The County - From the railway station turn right and walk down the side of the bowling club and cross Westby Street into Hastings Place. The pub is located at the end of this road at the junction with Church Road.

The Station Tavern - The original Lytham railway station has been sympathetically converted to a public house. Hence, the pub is less than a stones throw from the South Fylde line. It also has live music on certain evenings.

The Ship & Royal - From the station, cross Westby Street, and walk down Park Street towards the main shopping area. Turn left into Clifton Street - the pub is about 75 yards further on.

The Derby - Is situated in Station Road. From the railway station cross the main road in front of the booking hall and turn left. The pub is located approximately 500 yards further along here.

The Railway Inn - From the station, cross Station Road and then walk down the steps from the bridge into the car park. The pub is located to the side of this facility.
