The tramway which serves the Fylde coast

On Thursday the 6th of July 2006, the Government announced that it had issued a grant for £11.8 million to Blackpool tramway for emergency repairs to the track. The route between the South Pier and Manchester Square has had a speed restriction of 4 m.p.h. imposed recently due to the very poor condition of the permanent way. Blackpool had originally applied for a much larger grant which included new rolling stock. It is to be hoped that the balance of the grant will be made available at a later date.
